Scholastic Set to Buy Cottage Door Press for $71 Million

NEW YORK, September 29, 2026: Scholastic Corporation has signed a definitive agreement for acquiring Cottage Door Press, which specializes in producing early childhood books and creating new publishing formats, for about $71 million, adjusted to standard terms and conditions on purchasing price.

Expanding Scholastic’s Early Childhood Publishing Offerings

The acquisition will allow Scholastic Corporation to enhance its offering in early childhood publishing industry through expertise of Cottage Door Press in board books, novelty formats, and other children’s publishing products.

Established in 2014, Cottage Door Press has emerged as one of the biggest independent children's book publishers in America. The publishing model followed by the company is based on the interactive format of publishing that encourages children to interact with books.

With the conclusion of the deal, Cottage Door Press will join the Scholastic Children's Book Group. It is likely that the publishing firm will continue to maintain its publishing model and entrepreneurial model but benefit from the wider distribution network of Scholastic.

Deal Anticipated to Close by End of 2026

The deal is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2026, contingent on usual closing conditions, necessary third-party approvals, and other deal conditions.

For the 12 months ended May 31, 2026, Cottage Door Press had produced net revenue of about $45 million and was referred to by Scholastic as highly profitable.

In connection with the deal, Luna StoryTime range of interactive electronic toys of Cottage Door will be spun off prior to the deal and will not be a part of the acquisition.

The acquisition is expected by Scholastic to positively impact revenues and Adjusted EBITDA in fiscal 2027, as Scholastic estimates that the deal will be accretive in its second year post-completion.
